Van Arlo combines the intimacy of singer-songwriter music with the dynamics of a live rock band and the emotional weight of chamber strings.
The strings aren't simply added to the songs. Original four-part arrangements written specifically for the music - moving between subtle textures, countermelodies, rhythmic movement and full ensemble crescendos.
The result is a live performance that can move from quiet and vulnerable to expansive and cinematic without losing the song at its center.

Van Arlo has performed throughout Northeast Ohio and beyond, with appearances on Fox 8 Cleveland and NPR/Ideastream, performances at House of Blues and support dates with national touring artists including The Verve Pipe and Birdtalker.
Led by singer-songwriter Ben Marthey, Van Arlo brings together experienced regional musicians Van Eidom (drums), Steve Rak (lead guitar), Sean Barbarotta (Bass), Ed Marthey (keys) and live strings to create a scalable concert experience built for theaters, festivals, outdoor concdert series and arts programming.
